Warden Walter R. Krukow
Warden Walter R. Krukow, killed on April 20, 1947. Boulder Creek near Whiskeytown, Shasta Co. From Memorial Reprint. Krukow was killed while on patrol checking fishermen on Boulder Creek. One of the fishermen, Stanford Lee Johnson who was 17 at the time, was sent home by Krukow because he had no license. Johnson went home and got a rifle and returned to the area where he waited for Krukow. When the Warden appeared Johnson shot him 3-times. Johnson was arrested and convicted of second degree murder. He was paroled 13-months later. |
