2026 Retired Wildlife Officers BBQ in Fresno

Dear Retired Wildlife Officers,

We’re excited to share that planning is underway for our 2nd Annual Retired Officers Barbecue, which will take place at the Willow Unit Ecological Reserve in Fresno on Thursday, April 9, 2026. Thanks to CalWOF, we now have a fantastic new facility next to our K9 field that will serve as the perfect gathering spot for this event (as last year’s attendees can attest).  While the focus is on bringing together our Central California retirees, we warmly welcome all retired Wildlife Officers from Northern and Southern California as well. All are invited, and we hope to see many familiar faces from across the state.

The goal of this gathering is simple but meaningful: to reconnect, reminisce, and reinforce the strong bonds that have always defined our Wildlife Officer community. As the years pass and careers transition into retirement, maintaining the connections forged in the field, on the water, and throughout our shared service becomes more important than ever.

As with last year, we are also seeking support to help make this event a success. We will be reaching out to the Wardens Association, the Supervisors and Managers Association, and the California Wildlife Officers Foundation (CALWOF) for donations or sponsorships to help cover food, beverages, and other event‑related expenses.

We’re truly looking forward to bringing our retired officers back together, and we hope this barbecue becomes a lasting tradition for years to come. More details will be shared as planning continues, but in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any ideas, questions, or suggestions.

Those who plan to attend, please RSVP to Lt. Travis Kappen at 559‑791‑5253 (call or text) or travis.kappen@wildlife.ca.gov. If you know of a retired Wildlife Officer (or LED Admin staff) whom you would like to invite, please feel free to forward this invitation or share their contact information with me—just be sure they RSVP as well so we can plan accordingly.

Thank you for your continued support and for being a valued part of our Wildlife Officer family—past, present, and future.

Warm regards,
Lt. Travis Kappen
