   Hi Jack
   First thanks for all the work that you do to keep all of us in touch. I don’t meant to be critical but I think I found a few errors regarding the retirement dates,etc.
   Jim Dixon ‘ 95 was a Captain not a Lt.
   Jim Holven ’86 was an Inspector not a Capt
   Henry Hoover ’85 was a Capt not a Lt
   Ned Dollahite ’83 was Chief not an Assistant Chief
   Artie Brown ’81 was Lt not a Warden
   Gil Berg ’80 was a Lt not a Warden
   Bernhardt Faist ’77 was Chief not Assistant Chief

      Bob: Not a problem. I will make those corrections. Most of that info came dirctly from the PERS database.

   Hello,

   My name is Ron Cooper. I am the son of Ken Cooper who retired as a lieutenant in 1980. I really appreciate all the effort making this website possible. I know it is a lot of work but the retirees and their family and friends enjoy it. I was hoping you could add my dad to the list of retirees and also if you could correct the spelling of his name under the photo of the graduating class of 1959. You have it as Ken Kooper instead of Cooper. If you are interested I have a fair amount of old photos that I would be happy to send to you. Just let me know the e-mail address and I will get them to you.

         Hi,
         This is probably a strange request, but I am desperate to find an answer.
         Approximately 2005 I was ” Channel Surfing “, and came across one of the most interesting stories about fish and game that I have ever seen.. It was filmed in documentary fashion about an office who worked ( largely in Colusa Ca., I believe ) He arrested several fishing poachers at one time, secured a rope around the necks of the poachers and marched them down the highway before a C.H.P. officer arrived to assist, even though at first the C.H.P. officer couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
         Another incident involved the officer using a scuba wet-suit, with mask and snorkel, going under water and grabbing the poachers fishing line, and pulled on it until he was looking at an astonished poacher in the eye.
         I enjoyed this film so much and have told so many people about it, including my uncle who retired from the D. F. G. in New Mexico.
         I would appreciate very much if you can direct me to a source that could help me secure the film.

   A current Officer with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Dept in the Civil/Fugitive Warant unit. Having no luck in finding out what type of vehicles your agency used in 1966 if possible. thanks.

      I did not come on until 1977 but we were still running some old Matadors and some old Dodge sedans.Of course, some of the wardens had pick-up trucks and 4 wheel drive Ram Chargers too. I started with an old beat up Matador and upgraded a couple of years later with a 4 wheel drive Dodge Ram Charger.

   Appreciate the info Jack. I was an Officer with the San Juan bautista PD back in 1976 and remembered a F&G Warden named Paul working out of San Benito County(Hollister) area and I believe he drove a 4X4 pick-up. I have a lead on a 1966 Dodge Power Wagon and was the reason I’m trying to find out what your agency used during that time.

            I am confused. I checked my old rosters and only showed one new hire in 1994. Are you talking about the academy class that started in October of 1993 and graduated in 1994? Maybe one of them has a photo. Have you checked with them for a photo? I think 7 of them still work for the Department.

    #3 Glenn Hilpert asked about the types of vehicles used in 1966. I was working at the dfg office in Redding in 1967. The vehicles were Studebaker cars and trucks. There were other, Chevy and Ford, but Studebaker had the contract then.

    I believe I met Jere Warden retired 1982 a few days ago while walking with my wife. I discovered that re was having arrhythmia that could include heart failure and he introduced himself so that I could share with him how too self-measure and control his AF-arrhythmia. But I could not find him in the Bishop, telephone directory.

    This week my grandpa Ray Azbill died. He was a good man and all these years he was just full of stories from his time as a game warden. They even have an annual pheasant hunt in his name. Ray Azbill Junior Pheasant Hunt. I just thought i would share, because im sure some people on here would remember him, he made a big impact everywhere he went.

    Hello, I found this site by accident but I am so glad I did. I did not see my father’s name. He was a California fish and game warden in the 50s 60s and part of the 70s. I did see names I recognize like Bob Prosser and Kenneth Brown. They were all close friends. His name is Guy D. Noel. He worked in Ventura County and Bishop CA. Thank you for all you do.

       Although I did not know Guy, I do see his name on the 1969 roster as being the warden in Bishop. https://californiawarden.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/1969WardenRoster.pdf. If you provide the information I would be happy to add his name to the Retired Wardens page.
