Credit Reporting

Part of planning for the future is keeping track of what is happening today. One of the most important things you can do in this regard is to keep track of your credit history. This way you can react quickly if your identity has been stolen. If someone gets your SSN just think of the problems you will have when it comes time to retire and things are messed up.

So, as a part of your ongoing retirement planning, make sure to get a free copy of your credit report each year.

For a copy of your own credit report, contact the reporting agencies: Experian, (888) 397-3742, experian.com; Equifax, (800) 685-1111, equifax.com; and TransUnion, (312) 408-1077 transunion.com. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the companies to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months.
